Profile

I was born in a strange place, in a strange town... Not really but I'd like to think so. I'm just a regular girl who grew up in the US and never lost her love of cartoons. I am the oldest of two kids, my brother being the youngest and lamest -insert taunting laughter here-. I was born and raised in Chicago, and am Mexican-American. We lived in the Little Village area of Chicago till I started the 2nd grade, in which we moved to the Chicago Lawn Area.

While in the Little Village, I went to a bilingual school. My education began in Spanish, which was my first language at the time. My viewing choices centered around the Power Rangers at the time but I also fondly remember Darkwing Duck, Duck Tales, Tiny Toons, and the Ninja Turtles. I wondered, then, about the creation of television and believed that someone, somewhere in front of a camera would very rapidly display pictures using only his hands and mad skills. The live feed would then be transmitted to my screen. When I wasn't being amazed by television I dug for worms and hunted for apples from our massive apple tree.

Once in the Chicago Lawn Area, I was thrust into all English classes. The transition was difficult but I managed. Life was normal and consisted of friends, school, and cartoons. Some of my favorite cartoons growing up were The Animaniacs, Mummies Alive, Gargoyles, and Beast Wars. At some point we signed up for cable in which I was introduced to Cartoon Network and its great lineup of anime and 80's cartoons. It was also at this point that I figured out just how video worked.

During High School I was a choir geek and favored classes such as Art and Film Study. Sure enough, I was still running home after school to catch some toons like the Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack, and Teen Titans. I was nearing the end of High School and eventually the big question came up, what do you want to do for the rest of your life? The answer was simple back then, I wanted to be a Jewel's grocery store worker! It was a simple dream, a lame dream, but nonetheless a dream... Not to mention I was five and didn't know any better. I began to think about the things I loved. I always enjoyed art and drawing, so I immersed myself in Graphic Design and Web Design. In my last year of High School I was part of the Gallery 37 program and participated in graphic design classes, but I was not satisfied. I also enjoyed writing and creating stories. A combination of both writing and drawing would be perfect for me, and I found it in animation.

It was decided, I would go to the Illinois Institute of Art and become an animator. I'm ready to make my real dream come true... Not the one about Jewel... But my dream of creating stories and bringing them to audiences on the big screen, not only in the US but in Latin America as well.
